Samo NY

Photographed in New York City from 2015 to 2020, this series represents the early development of Mitch’s practice and the discovery of photography as both a language and a responsibility. Self-taught during this period, Mitch used the camera to document the changing social landscape of the city. Centering the effects of gentrification and the common struggles experienced within the Black community, the work traces the tensions between displacement, survival, and cultural resilience. The series serves as both a personal archive and a visual record of communities negotiating transformation within an evolving urban environment.
